Throughout November and December 2025, the Sigma Beta Beta Chapter carried out a series of food-focused service efforts centered on meeting people where they were and responding to immediate community needs.
On November 20th, brothers spent the day serving at the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen. The work was hands-on and collaborative, with brothers assisting in the distribution of turkeys, cases of dairy products, and canned goods. In addition, the chapter delivered a donation of coats and jackets to support community members as colder weather approached. Brothers took time to greet and engage those who came through the doors, creating an atmosphere of warmth and respect. The INN staff expressed sincere appreciation for the chapter’s support and presence throughout the day.
On November 25th, the chapter held its Annual Turkey Drive at St. John’s Baptist Church. The event resulted in the successful distribution of 100 turkeys to families in need. Families expressed gratitude and appreciation as they received support during the holiday season, reinforcing the importance of continued outreach during times of heightened need.
The chapter’s food efforts continued on Thanksgiving Day through an annual partnership with the First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury. Brothers supported the distribution of Thanksgiving dinners to community members, including a sit-down meal for those who gathered at the church. Understanding that some community members were unable to attend in person, brothers also traveled to the Homestead Senior Apartments to deliver meals and desserts to seniors in their homes. These visits were marked by conversation, laughter, and meaningful engagement, turning a meal delivery into a shared moment of connection.
Together, these efforts reflect the chapter’s ongoing commitment to service that extends beyond a single event or location. Through consistent presence, thoughtful engagement, and care for the community, Sigma Beta Beta continues to demonstrate that service is about more than providing food. It is about showing up for people in ways that matter.
